My workflow is something that I have been trying to streamline over the years. being a full time working artist I have tried to cut out unnecessary steps in my process and make it work better for me. I love being able to start sketching with a pencil and my sketchbook and really take some time to flesh out my ideas and decided if I wan to take them further.
Some of them just stay in the sketchbook until I am ready to take them to the next step and some I keep them going pretty quickly.
Over the past few weeks I have been creating collections of icons and images that I can use for other projects. It might be a collection of some of my favorite things or just something that caught my eye that day. I might have seen something on instagram or Pinterest and thought they would be fun things to draw.
This collection of items all started with these scissors. They were my Mom’s and I remember her always having them on her desk when I was a child. I have them in a container on my desk just because. It is not like I use them they are just there to make me remember. They are vintage from the 1960’s and I just love that I have them.
So after I finalize the pencil sketch I will start to work on the black inked outlines. I don’t want them to be perfectly straight lines I like the hand drawn look to them and they not have to be perfect. I will be taking a picture of this page with my iPad and taking the image into Procreate and creating the finished illustration.
This is what the finished line drawing looks like once I have finished it in Procreate. I will then add all the color and shading digitally as well. I can also use this image for a coloring sheet as well.
Once I have finished adding all the color and the shading I will export all of the images as individual PNG files and use them in Adobe Illustrator and create the end product that I have in mind for them.
With these I chose to create a line of greeting cards for my shop and I am planning on creating notebooks with these images as well.
I have filmed a video for my YouTube Channel that you can watch where I explain and show a little more about my workflow process.
